Common Illnesses

There are several common illnesses that can affect your pet. These include:

    • Internal parasites, such as hookworms and roundworms

    • External parasites, such as fleas, ear mites, and ticks

    • Upper respiratory infections

    • Pneumonia

    • GI issues

Symptoms of internal parasites include weight loss, diarrhea, and a potbelly. External symptoms include dandruff, scratching, and crusty black residue inside the ears. Upper respiratory infections have signs such as loss of appetite, sneezing, and eye discharge. GI issues present symptoms including vomiting, bloating, diarrhea, and loss of appetite.

Scheduling a Puppy Exam or Kitten Exam

When you schedule an appointment at our animal hospital for a puppy exam or a kitten exam, our vet will check your pet from head to tail. Your pup's general appearance, weight, a check of the mouth and teeth, a check for worms and parasites, such as fleas and ticks. Vaccination shots will also be administered to get your pup on the road to a long and healthy life.

Since a puppy and a kitten are just starting out on their journey to stable and good health, each will require frequent booster shots. Because the puppies and kittens have immune systems not yet fully developed, a series of shots is needed. The shots help protect the young from infectious diseases. Throughout the puppy exam and the kitten exam, our veterinarian will discuss with you your pet's current health status, diet, and any treatments needed.

As your puppy or kitten grows, our staff will be your pet's healthcare provider. We will be with them every step of the way as they transition from needing booster shots and frequent visits to adults getting an annual exam.

Wellness Exams

When your puppy or kitten moves to its next stage of development where an annual pet wellness exam is needed, our team is ready to keep your pet on its journey to continued good health.

What to expect for a wellness exam includes:

    • Dental care

    • Fel. V/FIV test

    • Grooming

    • Heartworm test

    • Parasite prevention

    • Physical exam

    • Vaccinations
